Interview Question: Can you describe a time when you had to troubleshoot a complex automation script and how did you approach the problem?

As an Automation Tester at Cognizant Technology Solutions, I have faced a few challenging situations where troubleshooting a complex automation script was required. One such instance was when I was testing a healthcare application, and the script kept failing without providing any clear error message.

To approach the problem, I followed a step-by-step process:

  1. First, I reviewed the script thoroughly to identify any syntax or logical errors that could be causing the issue.
  2. Then, I used debugging tools such as console logs and breakpoints to track the flow of code execution and identify the root cause of the problem.
  3. Next, I researched and referred to relevant documentations and online forums to find any solutions or workarounds.
  4. Lastly, I collaborated with my team and sought help from senior developers to efficiently troubleshoot and resolve the issue.

Through this process, I was able to identify the bug in the script, which was caused by incorrect variable declaration. After correcting the mistake, the script ran smoothly, and the testing was successful.

This experience taught me the importance of attention to detail and the significance of utilizing all available resources in troubleshooting complex automation scripts.
