During my previous job as a Project Manager at XYZ Corporation, I had to work with a multicultural team which faced significant differences in cultural perspectives. The team comprised of individuals from different parts of the world, and they were required to work together seamlessly on a project.
One instance where I had to navigate a difficult cultural issue within the team was when we had a disagreement on a particular project's handling. Some team members, who were from individualistic cultures, wanted to work independently without seeking opinions from others, while team members from collectivist cultures preferred group decision making.
I dealt with this conflict by initiating a team meeting and promoting open communication and listened to every team member's opinions. I facilitated an environment that allowed every team member the freedom to share their thoughts and legitimized everyone's viewpoints, regardless of differences. By doing so, I was able to develop a consensus and find common ground for the team to work together cohesively.
